Your work profile

We are looking for a Virtualization SME to lead the architecture‑aware operations, optimization, and lifecycle management of our Software‑Defined Data Center (SDDC). You will be the go‑to expert for VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter, NSX‑T, vSAN, and VCF (SDDC Manager)—driving availability, performance, security, automation, DR, and cross‑stack integrations (backup, monitoring, SIEM, ITSM). This role partners with compute, network, storage, security, and application teams to deliver mission‑critical private/hybrid cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

SDDC Platform Ownership

  • Own day‑to‑day reliability and roadmap for vSphere clusters (HA/DRS/EVC), ESXi hosts, vCenter, and VCF/SDDC Manager domains where applicable.
  • Govern capacity & performance (CPU/Memory/NUMA placement, reservations/shares/limits), right‑sizing, and HCL compliance.
  • Lead platform lifecycle: upgrades, patching (ESXi/vCenter/NSX‑T/vSAN/firmware), interoperability/BOM alignment, and change management.
  • Define and enforce golden build patterns (templates, hardening, tags, policies).

Networking (NSX‑T) & Connectivity

  • Design/operate NSX‑T: T0/T1 routing, segments, NAT, DHCP, load balancer/WAF policies, DFW micro‑segmentation, IDS/IPS.
  • Integrate with physical networks (VLANs, LACP, MTU/Jumbo frames, BGP/OSPF).
  • Oversee traffic engineering for East/West and North/South paths and troubleshoot latency/packet‑loss.

Storage & Data Services

  • Architect and operate vSAN (policy‑based mgmt, dedupe/compression, stretched/2‑node/ROBO, HCI Mesh); integrate external SAN/NAS (FC/iSCSI/NFS).
  • Own storage performance and resilience characteristics (IOPS/throughput/latency, SPBM, fault domains, resync behaviors).

Backup, Recovery & DR

  • Define standards and operate enterprise backup & recovery for VMs and applications (Veeam/Commvault/Rubrik/Cohesity).
  • Lead DR strategy using SRM/HCX or native tools; set/validate RPO/RTO, run DR drills, and maintain runbooks.
  • Ensure immutability/air‑gapping/Object Lock for ransomware resilience.

Security, Compliance & Risk

  • Enforce hardening baselines (ESXi/vCenter/NSX‑T/vSAN), RBAC/least privilege, certificate lifecycle, TLS, vTPM, and encryption (at rest/in transit).
  • Drive vulnerability management, CVE remediation, and audit readiness (e.g., ISO, SOC) with evidence management.
  • Implement micro‑segmentation, network policies, and platform guardrails with policy‑as‑code where feasible.

Automation & Observability

  • Build automation for provisioning/operations with PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform/Aria (vRA/vRO); create reusable modules and runbooks.
  • Own observability: Aria Operations (vROps), Aria Ops for Logs (vRLI), Splunk/ELK, Prometheus/Grafana dashboards and SLO/SLI‑based alerting.
  • Reduce toil via event‑driven automation and auto‑remediation; govern CMDB accuracy and config drift control.

Operations Excellence & Leadership

  • Provide L3/L4 escalation and lead Major Incident resolution; deliver RCAs with preventive actions.
  • Mentor engineers, define standards, run platform councils, and partner with Service Delivery for SLA/SLO health.
  • Collaborate closely with app/middleware/DB/security teams for performance and resilience outcomes.

 

  

 

Key skills required: 

  • 10+ years in data center/cloud operations with deep VMware SDDC expertise.
  • Compute: vSphere/ESXi/vCenter (clusters, HA/DRS/EVC, vMotion/Storage vMotion, maintenance mode, lifecycle).
  • Network: NSX‑T (DFW, LB/WAF, VPN, Tier‑0/1, BGP/OSPF, NAT, segments), vDS, and integration with physical network.
  • Storage: vSAN design/operations (SPBM, dedupe/compression, stretched clusters), external SAN/NAS (FC/iSCSI/NFS).
  • DR/BCP: SRM/HCX, recovery plans, runbooks, DR drills; backup with Veeam/Commvault/Rubrik/Cohesity incl. immutability.
  • Automation: Strong with PowerCLI/PowerShell, Ansible, and Terraform/Aria; Git and CI/CD workflows.
  • Observability: vROps, vRLI, Splunk/ELK/Grafana; capacity/performance tuning and RCA practice.
  • Security/Compliance: Hardening, RBAC, certs/TLS, encryption, micro‑segmentation, vulnerability management.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication, documentation, and ITIL Incident/Change/Problem experience.
