Your work profile

We are seeking an Oracle DBA (2–5 years) to support day‑to‑day Oracle database operations in a Software‑Defined Data Center (SDDC). You will handle installations, backups/restores, patching, monitoring, and incident resolution for Oracle databases running on VMware vSphere with integrations across storage (vSAN/SAN/NAS), backup, and NSX‑T networking. You’ll collaborate closely with Linux, storage, network, and application teams to maintain reliable, secure, and well‑documented services.

Key Responsibilities

Oracle Database Operations

  • Install and configure Oracle Database (11g/12c/18c/19c) on Linux (preferred) or Windows.
  • Perform routine DBA tasks: user/role management, tablespace/segment management, schema changes, export/import (Data Pump), and statistics collection.
  • Monitor DB health, growth, and sessions; manage alerts and respond to incidents within SLAs.

Backup, Recovery & DR

  • Work with enterprise backup suites (Commvault/Rubrik/Veeam/Cohesity) integrated with RMAN policies.
  • Participate in DR drills; follow runbooks for switchover/failover; maintain backup/DR documentation.

Performance & Maintenance

  • Conduct basic performance troubleshooting using AWR/ASH/ADDM, OEM/Cloud Control, and execution plan review.
  • Perform index/segment maintenance, gather optimizer stats, and raise/query tuning issues to senior DBA when needed.
  • Support capacity/right‑sizing recommendations (CPU, memory, IOPS/latency).

SDDC / Virtualization Awareness

  • Operate Oracle workloads on VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter (provision from templates, snapshots best practices, vMotion/storage vMotion considerations).
  • Coordinate with platform teams for vSAN/SAN/NAS storage mapping, multipath considerations, and performance baselines.
  • Collaborate with network/SDDC teams on NSX‑T segments, firewall/micro‑segmentation rules, and connectivity dependencies.

Security, Compliance & Patching

  • Implement security best practices: roles/privileges, password policies, auditing, listener/sqlnet hardening.
  • Assist with TDE setup/maintenance (where used), backup encryption, and TLS certificates.
  • Apply PSU/RU/RUR patches under change control; support vulnerability remediation and compliance evidence.

Automation, Monitoring & Documentation

  • Use SQL/PLSQL and Shell/Python scripts for routine tasks (checks, reports, housekeeping).
  • Monitor using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Linux/system tools, and platform dashboards; respond to alerts.
  • Maintain SOPs, runbooks, CMDB entries, change records, and environment diagrams with version control (Git).

Operations Excellence

  • Provide L2 support for incidents/requests; escalate to L3 as needed with clear diagnostics.
  • Participate in Incident/Change/Problem processes (ITIL), planned maintenance windows, and on‑call rotations (if applicable).
  • Collaborate with application, Linux, storage, backup, and SDDC teams for stable service delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of:
  • Oracle 11g/12c/18c/19c, RMAN, Data Pump, OEM/Cloud Control
  • DB object/tablespace management, users/roles, auditing basics
  • Backup/restore workflows and PITR

  • Experience running Oracle on VMware vSphere (templates, snapshots best practices, vMotion).
  • Familiarity with storage (vSAN/SAN/NAS) and networking basics relevant to DB operations.
