Database Engineer – PostgreSQL & Reporting

Experience: 5–8 Years

Job Summary

We are seeking a PostgreSQL Database Engineer with expertise in database performance optimization, along with hands‑on experience supporting reporting and analytics use cases using tools such as AWS QuickSight. The role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing transactional databases while enabling reliable reporting, dashboards, and downstream analytical workloads. Basic understanding of Data Lakehouse concepts is expected.

Required Skills

Core Database Skills

• Expert in SQL & PL/pgSQL (functions, procedures, triggers, views)
• Strong understanding of:
• Database design & normalization
• Query optimization, indexing, and execution plans
• Transactions, locking, and deadlock prevention
• OLTP databases and ACID properties
• Knowledge of JSON / JSONB support in PostgreSQL

Reporting & Analytics

• Experience supporting reporting and BI use cases on top of PostgreSQL databases
• Hands‑on or working experience with AWS QuickSight for:
• Building dashboards and visualizations
• Creating datasets from relational sources
• Optimizing queries and data models for reporting performance
• Ability to design database views and reporting‑friendly schemas for analytical consumption
• Understanding of reporting performance considerations (aggregations, materialized views, refresh strategies)

Platform & Tooling

• Working knowledge of:
• PostgreSQL installation, configuration, and basic administration
• Performance monitoring and tuning
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (preferably Azure DevOps)
• Intermediate experience with SQL Server / T‑SQL is a plus

Data Lakehouse – Basic Knowledge

• Understanding of how transactional databases integrate with lakehouse and analytics platforms
• Awareness of data curation layers and analytical consumption patterns
• Ability to support reporting and downstream data use cases from curated datasets

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain database objects (SQL, PL/pgSQL, procedures, functions, views, triggers)
• Design efficient, scalable, and reporting‑friendly PostgreSQL data models
• Optimize queries, indexes, and database performance for both OLTP and reporting workloads
• Support BI and reporting solutions using AWS QuickSight, including dataset design and query optimization
• Diagnose and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks
• Work closely with application and analytics teams to support reliable data access and reporting patterns
• Ensure data quality, security, and integrity across transactional and reporting layers
• Participate in Agile teams (story review, estimation, sprint execution)

Nice to Have

• Experience with high‑volume or large‑scale databases
• Exposure to message queues or full‑text search
• Familiarity with data governance, data quality, or compliance standards
• Exposure to additional BI or visualization tools beyond AWS QuickSight
