Your work profile

 

We are seeking an experienced SDDC Engineer to operate and optimize our software‑defined data center stack across compute (vSphere), network (NSX‑T), storage (vSAN/SAN/NAS), and data protection (backup/DR). You’ll drive reliability, performance, security, and automation for mission‑critical private/hybrid cloud workloads, collaborating with platform, security, and application teams.

Key Responsibilities

SDDC Platform Operations

  • Operate and optimize VMware vSphere/ESXi & vCenter, including cluster HA/DRS/EVC, lifecycle, patching, and hardware compatibility (HCL).
  • Manage NSX‑T constructs (T0/T1, segments, Tiered routing, NAT, DHCP, DNS forwarding, LB/WAF, DFW micro‑segmentation, IDS/IPS) and vDS/N‑VDS.
  • Administer vSAN (disk groups, storage policies, dedupe/compression, HCI Mesh, stretched clusters) and integrate with external SAN/NAS as needed.
  • Operate VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)/SDDC Manager (if applicable) for lifecycle, BOM alignment, and domain operations.
  • Capacity planning, performance tuning (CPU/Memory/IOPS/latency), right‑sizing, and cost/efficiency tracking.

Backup, DR & Resiliency

  • Own enterprise backup & recovery for VMs and data stores using Veeam/Commvault/Rubrik/Cohesity with application‑aware backups.
  • Design and enforce policies, schedules, retention, immutability, offsite/air‑gapped copies, and Object Lock repositories.
  • Implement and test DR using VMware SRM/HCX or native toolchains; maintain runbooks, meet RPO/RTO, lead DR drills and post‑mortems.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Implement RBAC, least privilege, certificate management, vTPM, encryption at rest/in transit, and micro‑segmentation policies.
  • Align configurations to baselines/benchmarks; maintain audit readiness (e.g., ISO/SOC).
  • Track CVEs, firmware/ESXi/vCenter/NSX‑T/vSAN patching, and perform change management via ITIL.

Automation & Observability

  • Automate provisioning/operations using PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform/Aria Automation (vRA), vRO, and API/CLI.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting via Aria Operations (vROps), Aria Operations for Logs (vRLI), Splunk/Elastic, Prometheus/Grafana; define SLIs/SLOs and create runbooks.
  • Maintain CMDB/asset inventories, diagrams, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.

Operations Excellence

  • Provide L2/L3 support; lead incident/problem/change processes (ITIL).
  • Partner with network, security, storage, DB, and app teams; participate in on‑call/rota as required.

 

Key skills required: 

  • 6+ years in data center/cloud operations with strong hands‑on SDDC expertise.
  • Compute: VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter (clusters, HA/DRS, templates, vMotion/Storage vMotion, snapshots, tags).
  • Network: NSX‑T routing/switching, DFW, LB/WAF, VPN, BGP/OSPF fundamentals; integration with physical network (VLANs, MTU, LACP).
  • Storage: vSAN design/ops, storage policies, vsanCfg/vsanHealth; external SAN/NAS (iSCSI/FC, NFS/SMB), snapshots/replication.
  • Backup/DR: One or more suites (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity), immutable backups, SRM/HCX for mobility/DR, tested runbooks.
  • Automation: PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform/Aria Automation, scripting (PowerShell/Bash/Python).
  • Observability: vROps/Aria, log analytics, capacity/performance tuning; RCA skills.
  • Process: ITIL (Incident/Change/Problem), excellent documentation and stakeholder communication.
  • VMware certifications: VCP‑DCV, VCAP‑DCV, VCP‑NV/VCAP‑NV, VCP‑CMA, VCF Specialist.
  • Experience with Nutanix (AOS/AHV/Flow) or OpenStack.
  • Familiarity with backup for databases (SQL/Oracle/Postgres) and SaaS data protection (M365/Salesforce).
  • Exposure to SRE practices, chaos/game days, and runbook automation (vRO/Rundeck, Ansible Automation Platform).
  • Knowledge of PKI, KMS/HSM integration, and Zero‑Trust patterns
  • Educational details: Any bachelors
