Job Description: Middleware – IBM (Manager Level) Department: Cloud & Shared Services / Application & Middleware Operations Location: Employment Type: Full-Time Experience Required: 8+ Years Level: Manager – Middleware Operations / IBM Middleware SME About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced IBM Middleware Manager to lead and manage enterprise middleware environments. The role involves overseeing the administration, deployment, configuration, and optimization of IBM middleware platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and operational excellence. The Manager will be responsible for team leadership, technical strategy, incident resolution, process governance, and cross-functional collaboration with application, infrastructure, and development teams. Key Responsibilities Middleware Administration & Operations • IBM HIS (IBM HTTP Server), WebSphere Application Server, Tivoli Workload Scheduler (now called IBM Workload Scheduler), IBM MQ, Oracle WebLogic/Fusion, Crystal Report, IIS, Jasper report • Lead the administration and support of IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM MQ, IBM Integration Bus (IIB)/App Connect, Liberty Profile, and related middleware components. • Oversee middleware deployment, configuration, patching, upgrades, and performance tuning in production and non-production environments. • Ensure high availability (HA), failover configurations, and disaster recovery (DR) for middleware platforms. • Monitor middleware performance, capacity, and SLAs; proactively identify and resolve issues. Team Leadership & Governance • Manage, mentor, and guide middleware engineers and administrators to build technical competency and operational excellence. • Define and enforce standards, SOPs, operational procedures, and governance policies for middleware management. • Lead incident, problem, and change management processes aligned with ITIL best practices. • Collaborate with application owners, infrastructure teams, and cloud teams for integrated support and upgrades. Automation & Tools • Drive automation of routine middleware operations using scripts, CLI, Ansible, or other automation frameworks. • Implement monitoring, alerting, and reporting dashboards for middleware performance, usage, and SLA compliance. • Evaluate middleware tools, products, and upgrades for operational efficiency and security compliance. Project & Strategic Support • Participate in middleware architecture design, platform upgrades, and migration projects. • Provide technical advisory to applications and infrastructure teams on best practices for middleware deployment and tuning. • Contribute to capacity planning, lifecycle management, and cost optimization for middleware platforms. Required Skills • Hands-on expertise with IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM MQ, IBM Integration Bus (IIB)/App Connect, Liberty Profile, or equivalent IBM middleware. • Strong experience in middleware configuration, deployment, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. • Experience with high availability, clustering, failover configurations, and DR setups. • Solid understanding of operating systems (Unix/Linux, Windows) and integration with middleware platforms. • Experience with automation, monitoring, and operational tooling for middleware. • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and interact with senior stakeholders. • Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management). Experience • 8+ years of experience in enterprise middleware administration and support. • Hands-on experience managing IBM middleware platforms in production environments. • Experience leading middleware teams or acting as a technical SME/manager. Preferred Qualifications • IBM middleware certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator – WebSphere, IBM MQ). • Exposure to cloud deployments (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud) or containerized middleware environments. • Experience in large-scale enterprise or managed service environments. • Familiarity with application integration patterns, messaging, and API management.
