Your work profile

• Supplement the existing automation team by bringing deep S/4HANA domain knowledge and expertise in SAP test automation.
• This role is critical to delivering expected value or planned scope The role ensuring automation strategy, scripting, and execution are business-aligned, robust, maintainable, and deliver clear ROI and coverage.
• Focus areas include E2E automation for S/4 processes, data sheet design, regression automation, integration with qTest/Power BI reporting, and demonstrating clear PoV and value.
• This will reduce learning curve to support the outcome-based contract through value demonstration and efficient scope delivery and integrate seamlessly with the overall testing strategy and manual stream.
• Strategize and drive long-term test automation objectives and roadmap for the program, with strong focus on S/4HANA E2E business processes, R2.1 No-change E2Es, Low-change scenarios, and regression.
• Define and own the automation strategy, toolset landscape and strategy (including TOSCA Tricentis where applicable), and ways of working for the automation phase, ensuring alignment with the overall testing process and Shell TCOE policies.
• Design and oversee robust E2E scripting approach that focuses on business objectives, decouples SFT dependencies where possible, includes relevant CAP steps, and ensures script maintainability and long-term value.
• Develop and maintain high-quality automation data sheets and test data strategy aligned with PO/DA and business teams, addressing historical data issues that have impacted automation execution.
• Enhance and drive automation of regression health checks and dedicated regression cycles to address the identified process gap around post-fix and systemic regression.
• Integrate automation execution and results with qTest for tracking and Power BI for insights and reporting, supporting the In-Progress reporting framework action and providing clear value metrics (coverage, pass rates, defect detection efficiency, ROI).
• Articulate risks related to automation (data readiness, script stability, scope delivery, maintenance overhead) and support issue resolution with functional, solution, and dev teams.
• Effectively communicate automation status, progress, value delivered vs planned, PoV on the automation path, and recommendations with senior stakeholders and QE leadership.
• Collaborate closely with the QE/automation team, Functional Analysts, Solution Architects, and other stakeholders to align automation activities with program goals and priorities, ensuring automation delivers on planned scope and business value.
• Provide S/4HANA domain expertise and coaching to the automation team to improve script quality, reduce brittleness, and accelerate value realization (directly addressing “learning on the job” and “not delivering value” challenges).
• Drive defect management for automation-related defects, including root cause analysis in scripting or data, and prevention initiatives.
• Focus on outcome-based contract requirements by demonstrating tangible value of automation (e.g., faster regression cycles, broader coverage, reduced manual effort, early defect detection), tracking against planned scope, and supporting efficient, predictable delivery.
• Contribute to the overall test strategy and approach, ensuring strong integration between automation and manual/functional streams, and supporting R2.1 automation scope and improvements (e.g., Improved Template, Golden Example).

Key skills required 

• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, effective communication, and extensive experience in test automation methodologies and SAP S/4HANA platforms.
• Deep hands-on experience in S/4HANA testing automation, E2E business process automation in SAP (including Fiori, integrations, CAPs), scripting, maintenance, and regression automation.
• Previous experience in a senior test automation or automation leadership role in large, complex SAP programs, with proven delivery of value, scope, and ROI.
• Strong knowledge and experience in managing delivery of automation and regression testing components — Strategy, Approach, Scripting, Execution, Maintenance, Defect Management.
• Experience with automation tools, preferably TOSCA Tricentis (highly desirable), and test management/reporting tools such as qTest and Power BI.
• Proven ability to design business-aligned, maintainable automation that delivers clear value and addresses common challenges like data dependency, script brittleness, and regression.
• Experience in complex ERP programs with outcome-based or managed services contracts, with ability to articulate and demonstrate ROI and value of automation investments.
• Strong understanding of SAP S/4HANA business processes and data to ensure automation is effective and valuable.
• Ability to work in a matrix environment, collaborating with functional, solution, data, and dev teams, and coaching team members on S/4 specifics.

Desirable

• Previous experience in oil/gas or similar large energy sector SAP programs using Fiori.
• Knowledge of TCOE models and integrated testing strategies.
• Track record in high-defect or stabilization phases, with focus on automation’s role in quality improvement and value demonstration.
• Experience in R2.1 or similar release/upgrade automation programs.
• Previous experience addressing automation “value realization” and scope delivery challenges in outcome-based environments.
