Your work profile

We are seeking an experienced Linux Engineer to operate, secure, and optimize Linux platforms running on a Software‑Defined Data Center (SDDC). You will manage RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu systems, automate operations, collaborate with VMware SDDC (vSphere, vSAN, NSX‑T) teams, and ensure reliable backup/DR, patching, and compliance across hybrid environments.

Key Responsibilities

Linux Platform Operations

  • Administer and troubleshoot RHEL/CentOS/Oracle Linux/Ubuntu servers (systemd, SELinux/AppArmor, LVM, filesystems XFS/EXT4).
  • Manage OS lifecycle: hardening, patching, kernel updates, performance tuning, baseline configuration, and image/Golden template maintenance.
  • Operate and optimize web/app/database host stacks (Nginx/Apache, Tomcat, JVM, system packages) as needed.
  • Integrate with AD/LDAP/SSSD, manage sudo/RBAC, SSH policies, PAM, and certificate/key management.
  • Implement CIS/organizational hardening, vulnerability remediation, and endpoint protection agents.
  • Ensure audit logging, syslog/rsyslog, journald retention, and SIEM integration.
  • Operate Linux workloads on VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter: VM provisioning, resource sizing, VM tools, snapshots, vMotion/Storage vMotion.
  • Collaborate with SDDC teams on vSAN/SAN/NAS storage, NSX‑T networking (segments, DFW rules, load balancing), and VCF lifecycle considerations.
  • Participate in capacity planning and performance analysis (CPU, memory, IOPS, latency).
  • Ensure application‑aware and file‑level backups (Veeam/Commvault/Rubrik/Cohesity) and verify restore tests.
  • Maintain RPO/RTO adherence; support SRM/HCX‑based DR where applicable; maintain DR runbooks and participate in DR drills.
  • Automate routine operations using Bash/Python and Ansible (roles/playbooks), PowerCLI where relevant; contribute to Terraform modules for infra provisioning.
  • Implement/maintain monitoring and alerting (vROps, Prometheus/node_exporter, Grafana, Elastic/Splunk, SCOM/Nagios/Zabbix) and tune SLOs/SLIs.
  • Maintain high‑quality SOPs, runbooks, CMDB/asset records, and architecture diagrams.
  • Provide L2/L3 support for Linux and platform incidents; drive RCA, problem management, and change management (ITIL).
  • Collaborate with app, DB, network, storage, security, and virtualization teams; participate in on‑call/rota.

Key skills required:

  • 6–10 years of hands‑on Linux administration in enterprise environments.
  • RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu administration, system services, boot, storage (LVM, multipath), packages (yum/dnf/apt).
  • Security hardening (CIS), patching, CVE remediation, SELinux/AppArmor, SSH and sudo policy.
  • Scripting & automation: Bash, Python, Ansible (inventories, roles, vault).
  • Virtualization: Managing Linux VMs on VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter (templates, snapshots, tools, performance).
  • Networking basics: IP, routing, firewalls (iptables/nftables), NIC bonding/teaming, VLANs; familiarity with NSX‑T constructs.
  • Storage: vSAN/SAN/NAS fundamentals, mount management, fstab, iSCSI/NFS.
  • Backup/DR: Operating at least one enterprise suite (Veeam/Commvault/Rubrik/Cohesity), restore testing, retention/immutability concepts.
  • Observability: Logs/metrics/traces; performance diagnostics (top, iostat, vmstat, sar, perf).
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management; ITIL exposure.
  • Red Hat certifications (RHCSA/RHCE/EX294), SUSE SCA/SCE, or Ubuntu certs.
  • Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift node operations, CSI storage, and K8s backup (Velero/Kasten).
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), GitOps, and CI/CD (GitLab/Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault/KMS, secrets management, and Zero‑Trust patterns.
  • Experience with Nutanix AHV, OpenStack/KVM, or HCI solutions.
  • Educational qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
