Establishing AI Infrastructure Center of Excellence in India

To effectively capitalize on the emerging AI Infrastructure market in India, a robust Center of Excellence is critical. This section outlines the primary profiles needed to drive an AI Infrastructure centre of excellence, along with additional auxiliary roles to ensure comprehensive support and operational success.

Primary Profiles

1.       Job Title: Simulation Expert – Digital Twin Specialist

1. • Job Summary: Develops digital twin models of data centres with interactive, plug-and-play visualizations to support design validation and operational planning.
   • Key Responsibilities:
     • Create and maintain digital twin models
     • Integrate simulation tools with real-world data
   • Key Skills & Competencies:
     • Expertise in simulation software (Nvidia Omniverse)
     • Strong programming skills
     • Experience with 3D visualization and interactive dashboards
   • Educational Qualifications & Certifications:
     • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
     • Certifications in simulation or visualization software (desirable)
   • Experience Requirements: 5+ years in simulation, modelling, or digital twin development
   • Additional Considerations/Notes: Prior experience in data centre environments is compulsory

2.       Job Title: Solution Architect

2. • Job Summary: Designs and oversees the technical architecture for data centre setups ensuring integration, scalability, and alignment with business goals. Leads the design, evaluation, and selection of solution architectures
   • Key Responsibilities:
     • Develop end-to-end architectural solutions
     • Evaluate and integrate new technologies
     • Liaise with stakeholders for requirements gathering
   • Key Skills & Competencies:
     • Proficiency in cloud and on-premise architecture design with a minimum of 4-5 years experience in executing large-scale data centre projects

3.       Job Title: Data Centre Design Expert

3. • Job Summary: Experienced engineer who will lead the design and build-out of new data centre facilities. This role focuses on creating advanced blueprints, technical specifications, and equipment BOMs, while coordinating with OEM partners and internal teams to drive improvements in cost, quality, and deployment speed.
   • Key Responsibilities:
     • Translate capacity requirements into actionable white space and rack designs.
     • Develop comprehensive design documents, blueprints, and technical specifications.
     • Lead new build projects from site selection through construction.
     • Coordinate with OEMs, supply chain, and internal teams to ensure standardized installation procedures.
     • Oversee technical aspects including cabling, fiber, cooling systems, and power components.
     • Support external negotiations and review critical technical documentation.

   • Additional Considerations/Notes: Experience with OEM partnership coordination, proficiency in AutoCAD, FLOTHERM/Tileflow, and familiarity with industry standards (UMC, NFPA, ASHRAE, UBC, LEED, Uptime Institute) is a plus

4.       Job Title: Infrastructure Expert

4. • Job Summary: Oversees all physical infrastructure aspects of data centers - including plumbing, electricity, cooling, HVAC, flooring, and other MEP systems - to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. This role is pivotal in driving the core infrastructure strategy from site selection through buildout and into ongoing operations, working at the intersection of commercial, technical, strategy, and operations. The expert collaborates with internal design and engineering teams as well as external vendors to deliver cutting-edge, high-performance data center solutions.
   • Key Responsibilities:
     • Plan and manage the installation, design, and maintenance of physical infrastructure across large-scale data center campuses
     • Oversee building and MEP design, including the review of drawings and proposals, ensuring seamless integration of power, cooling, networking, and construction systems
     • Lead operational activities from the early design phase through commissioning, pilot testing, and full deployment, ensuring readiness and optimal performance
     • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors for equipment selection, procurement, and installation of critical systems (e.g., generators, UPS, chillers, CDUs)

5. • • Provide technical direction and expertise to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards while fostering strong vendor relationships

5.       Job Title: Cybersecurity Specialist

6. • Job Summary: Responsible for establishing a comprehensive cybersecurity framework during the setup of an AI data center. This role focuses on defining and implementing robust policies and procedures that secure data center infrastructure from the ground up, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and mitigating emerging cyber threats.
   • Key Responsibilities:
     • Design, document, and enforce cybersecurity policies and protocols tailored for an AI data center, integrating best practices from frameworks such as ISO 27001 and NIST
     • Collaborate with data center architects and IT teams to embed security controls into the design of physical and virtual infrastructures, including network segmentation, secure access controls, and threat intelligence systems
     • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, and compliance audits during the build phase to identify potential gaps and ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry-specific standards
     • Develop and apply threat models that address AI-specific risks (e.g., data poisoning, adversarial attacks) and establish red-teaming exercises to validate defenses before deployment
     • Provide technical guidance and training to project teams and future data center operators on cybersecurity best practices, fostering a culture of security awareness from the initial setup
