Your Work Profile
The z/OS Systems Programmer (Senior Consultant) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of IBM z/OS mainframe operating systems and associated ISV products.
This role involves ensuring the smooth operation of enterprise mainframe environments through system upgrades, production support, performance monitoring, and environment configuration.
You will work independently or within a team to manage system-level engineering activities, including deployment planning, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring system availability and stability.
Key Responsibilities
z/OS Systems Engineering
- Install, upgrade, maintain, and support the z/OS operating system
- Manage and support ISV products (primarily IBM and CA Technologies)
- Ensure system stability, availability, and performance of mainframe environments
Production Support & Operations
- Provide production support for mainframe systems
- Participate in incident resolution and problem determination
- Support system recovery, troubleshooting, and environment stabilization
System Configuration & Deployment
- Plan, configure, deploy, and test system changes and upgrades
- Support software installation using SMP/E and related tools
- Ensure controlled and secure system changes in production environments
Technical Analysis & Problem Solving
- Perform root cause analysis for system-level issues
- Troubleshoot issues across z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF environments
- Ensure permanent fixes for recurring system problems
Change & Release Support
- Provide off-hours support for system upgrades and releases
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical system support
- Support software change implementation and deployment activities
Documentation & Communication
- Create and maintain technical documentation for system processes
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Ensure complex technical issues are clearly articulated
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 6+ years of experience in z/OS Systems Programming
- Strong experience in mainframe system-level engineering and support
- Experience in production support and enterprise system environments
Key Skills (Must-Have)
- Strong expertise in z/OS systems programming
- Experience with:
- SMP/E
- TSO/ISPF
- USS (Unix System Services)
- SDSF
- JCL
- Experience with IBM and CA mainframe products
- Strong problem determination and debugging skills
