10+ years (Database Administration & Operations)

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced MS SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with 10+ years of expertise in managing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise-scale SQL Server environments. The SME will play a critical role in operations/managed services projects by ensuring high availability, performance, and security of SQL databases, driving automation for DBA tasks, and serving as a trusted advisor for both on-premises and cloud SQL database operations (AWS RDS for SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Managed Instance).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary SQL Server DBA SME for operate/managed services projects.
  • Administer, monitor, and maintain MS SQL Server databases (on-premises and cloud-hosted – AWS RDS for SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance).
  • Ensure high availability (HA/DR), backup, and recovery strategies using Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, and Clustering.
  • Monitor database performance, capacity, and health, and implement proactive tuning and optimization.
  • Manage database security, encryption, auditing, and compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations.
  • Automate routine DBA tasks (backups, patching, scaling, health checks, user provisioning) using PowerShell, T-SQL, and runbook automation tools.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, outages, and performance bottlenecks, and provide RCA with preventive measures.
  • Work with application and infrastructure teams to support database design, migrations, and upgrades across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and SOPs for DBA activities.
  • Provide knowledge transfer, mentoring, and guidance to junior DBAs and operations staff.
  • Stay updated with the latest SQL Server and cloud database services to recommend adoption strategies.

 

 
Requirements:

 

  • 10+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise and cloud environments.
  • Strong expertise in MS SQL Server 2012/2016/2019 and Azure SQL Database.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud SQL platforms – AWS RDS for SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance.
  • Proficiency in HA/DR solutions – Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, Mirroring.
  • Expertise in performance tuning and query optimization (indexes, execution plans, partitioning).
  • Strong skills in T-SQL scripting and PowerShell automation.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (SQL Profiler, Redgate, SolarWinds DPA, SentryOne, Cloud-native monitoring in AWS CloudWatch & Azure Monitor).
  • Strong understanding of backup, restore, and recovery models.
  • Familiarity with cloud migration strategies (on-premises to AWS/Azure SQL).
  • Exposure to ITIL-based operate models (incident, change, and problem management).
