Job Description: SAP PP/DS Consultant (Consultant Level)

Position: SAP PP/DS Consultant

Level: Consultant

Location: All Locations (Delhi/NCR preferred)

Role Overview

We are seeking an SAP Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) Consultant to deliver solutions for finite capacity planning, detailed scheduling, and order orchestration. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in embedded PP/DS on S/4HANA (or APO PP/DS), deep understanding of discrete/process industry planning, and can collaborate across Production, Procurement, Quality, and Warehouse teams to optimize service, throughput, and asset utilization.

Key Responsibilities

1) Solution Design & Build

  • Lead/participate in requirements workshops, process discovery, and fit–gap analysis for mid- to short-term planning.
  • Configure PP/DS components:
  • Master Data: PP/DS PDS (from BOM/Routings/Recipes), resources (single/multi-activity, capacity versions), secondary resources, production versions, work centers, calendars, setup groups, setup matrix.
  • Planning Functions: Heuristics (e.g., Product Heuristic, Planning with Demand, Schedule Sequence), DS Optimizer, PeGging (dynamic/fixed), pegging strategies, lot-sizing and safety stock influence on planning.
  • Detailed Scheduling: DS Planning Board, product view, resource view, sequencing rules, synchronization, alternate/parallel resources, sequence‑dependent setup, campaign/ block planning (where applicable).
  • Alerts & Monitoring: PP/DS Alert Monitor, exception management, late/early orders, capacity overloads.
  • Define and maintain planning procedures, horizons, buckets (bucketed vs. non-bucketed), and time streams.
  • Prepare Functional Specifications for WRICEF objects (reports, enhancements, interfaces, forms).

2) Integration & Data

  • Integrate with S/4HANA (MM, PP, QM, SD, EWM/WM) for end-to-end flow: demand (sales/forecast), supply (planned/production/process orders), confirmations, and GI/GR.
  • Coordinate generation and transfer of PP/DS PDS (from BOM/ routings/recipes/production versions).
  • Collaborate with IBP/S&OP teams for hand-off from medium-term planning to PP/DS short-term scheduling (where applicable).
  • Manage data quality, calendars, and capacity modeling; validate performance of heuristics/operators/optimizer.

3) Testing, Cutover & Support

  • Build test scripts and execute UT/SIT/UAT; manage defects and re-tests.
  • Plan and execute cutover: initial data loads, planning file setup, pegging/fixings, and freeze periods.
  • Provide hypercare and steady-state support; monitor alerts, resolve incidents within SLAs, and deliver incremental enhancements.

4) Governance, Change & Adoption

  • Maintain documentation (BRDs, configuration workbooks, data mapping, SOPs, training materials).
  • Drive user enablement (planning board training, exception handling, sequencing best practices).
  • Ensure compliance with quality, audit, and change control processes.

Required Skills & Experience

Functional Expertise

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in SAP PP/DS (embedded S/4HANA PP/DS preferred; APO PP/DS experience is a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Finite capacity planning, detailed scheduling, and pegging.
  • PP/DS heuristics and DS Optimizer configuration (profiles, costs/penalties, constraints).
  • Sequence-dependent setup, alternate resources, mode selection, overlaps, splits.
  • Master data: PDS, resources, calendars, setup groups, production versions.
  • Order types and flows: planned orders, production orders, process orders, confirmations.
  • Exposure to process industry features (recipes/PP-PI, campaigns) or discrete/automotive (rate/line scheduling) is beneficial.

Integration Knowledge

  • Integration with MM/SD/QM/EWM for materials, batches, quality checks, staging, and logistics execution.
  • Familiarity with IBP (Supply/Response) integration points and planning horizons.
  • Understanding of MRP vs. PP/DS roles, planning strategy alignment, and demand handover.

Technical/Tooling

  • Proficiency with DS Planning Board, product/resource views, Alert Monitor, pegging analysis.
  • Ability to write clear Functional Specifications and collaborate with ABAP/Integration teams.
  • Comfort with Fiori apps for PP/DS (embedded S/4), background jobs, and performance tuning.

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management (production, planners, plant ops).
  • Analytical problem-solving and attention to detail under time-constrained planning cycles.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional/agile teams.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical.
  • SAP PP or PP/DS certification (preferred).
  • APICS/ASCM CPIM/CSCP is a plus.
