Job description
In the Policy Research & Insights team, you will be responsible for conducting India-focused company and industry research, analysing findings, presenting them in both written and PowerPoint documents, managing a team, and collaborating with multiple senior stakeholders within the firm.
Key responsibilities
· Work with multiple senior practitioners in the firm to conduct mainly desk research (with very little focus on primary research) focused on domestic small- and medium-size companies across industries/sectors and regions in India
· Deep analysis of the sector/industries and regional markets in India; Deep-dive into sector dynamics & trends, regulatory landscape
· Strong understanding and application of macro drivers (GDP, inflation, interest rates, commodity cycles) on companies/sectors
· Competitive positioning of assets: strategic growth levers, operations competitiveness, and financial performance
· Track news flow, corporate actions, M&A activity
· Present and summarise data, insights, and preparing client-ready deck/reports on all deliverables
· Manage a team of junior researchers, guiding and training them to get the required output
· Manage career responsibilities for direct reports
· Build and strengthen relationships with Business and Internal stakeholders
· Work closely with an existing industry-focused research team to leverage their inputs and bake those into your analysis
· Write client-ready sections on short case studies and points of view
· Ensure the quality of deliverables and meeting or exceeding client expectations
· Handle ad hoc tasks or projects, including handling bespoke requests
· Effectively manage multiple tasks and stakeholders of all levels by prioritising urgency and importance
· Think through the bigger picture to find more ways to contribute to advancing the firm’s business with small- and medium-sized companies in India
Key skills:
Financial Analysis & Modelling:
· Build and maintain detailed financial models (three financial statements, DCF, COCOS and COTRANS analysis, precedent transactions)
· Analyse income statement, balance sheet, cash flow trends
· Forecast revenue, margins, capex, working capital, and free cash flow
· Conduct sensitivity and scenario analysis
· Valuation summary and Enterprise Value Mapping framework
Technical Skills:
· Industry depth (1-3 sectors: preferably from Consumer, Industrials/manufacturing, Energy)
· Strong financial statement analysis
· Advanced Excel and financial modelling
· Valuation methodologies (DCF, trading comps, EV/EBITDA, P/E)
· Accounting knowledge (Ind AS/IFRS/US GAAP)
· Leveraging a number of internal data sources and external paid and freely available secondary sources to put together a holistic analysis
Qualifications
· 8+ years of experience with a good research background, specifically focused on companies in India across industries
· Good writing and communication skills are a must, and must have worked on research reports and written short reports
· Proficient in MS Office applications with a knowledge of basic macros in Excel
· Demonstrated strong understanding of ratios and qualitative aspects to assess and compare companies’ performance
· Familiar with macroeconomic and financial concepts and major economic databases
· Strong understanding of paid databases and free sources to fetch the right data for companies in India
· Good interpersonal skills and a team player with a positive attitude and willingness to initiate
· Strong multi-tasking skills and a collaborative working style
· Very strong attention to detail and the ability and willingness to learn quickly about new subjects
