Job Description: Senior Consultant – SAP PP / Variant Configuration (V/C)

Position: Senior Consultant – SAP PP / VC

Location: Delhi/NCR

Technology: S/4HANA (preferred) with Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC), classic LO‑VC (nice-to-have)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior SAP PP/VC Consultant to lead the design and delivery of configure‑to‑order (CTO) / engineer‑to‑order (ETO) manufacturing solutions with deep expertise in Variant Configuration and complex BOM/routing management. The ideal candidate has hands-on S/4HANA PP and AVC experience, strong manufacturing process knowledge, and a track record of building scalable VC models that drive accurate planning, costing, and seamless integration to production and sales.

Key Responsibilities

1) Solution Design & Build (PP + VC)

• Lead discovery workshops, process mapping, and fit–gap for CTO/ETO and standard manufacturing.
• Design and configure VC models:
• Classes & Characteristics (numeric, string, boolean; value ranges; dependencies on master data).
• Should have 10-12 years of experience.
• Configuration Profiles (multi-level, multi-variant, runtime settings).
• Object Dependencies: Procedures, Constraints, Preconditions, Selection Conditions, Variant Tables/Functions.
• Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC): knowledge graph, performance, simulation, and model governance.
• Build Super BOMs and Super Routings with component/operation selection using dependencies; maintain production versions.
• Align planning strategies (MTS/MTO, CTO, ETO), MRP settings, and ATP/CTP implications for configurable materials.

2) Production Planning & Execution

• Configure PP master data: material types, work centers/resources, capacities, calendars, PRTs; setup/overlap/splits.
• Orchestrate order types & controls: planned orders → production/process orders, confirmations, backflushing, GI/GR.
• Enable costing integration: variant pricing impacts on costed BOMs, routing activity rates, and standard cost updates.
• Establish change management processes (ECN/engineering change) for configurable models and BOMs.

3) Integration (End-to-End)

• Collaborate with SD for VC in sales orders, variant pricing (variant condition keys), and incompletion/output.
• Integrate with MM (component procurement, MRP areas), QM (inspection characteristics tied to variants), EWM/WM (staging/HU), FI/CO (costing/settlement), and PP‑DS (for finite scheduling of configurable orders).
• Coordinate with MDG for governed characteristics, classes, and condition records; ensure consistent master data lifecycle.

4) Data, Testing, Cutover & Support

• Define data model & migration for configurable materials, classes/characteristics, super BOMs/routings, variant tables.
• Create test scenarios and drive UT/SIT/UAT; manage defects and performance tuning (model compile time, VC runtime).
• Plan and execute cutover (baseline costs, open orders, condition records, AVC model transport strategy).
• Lead go‑live & hypercare; establish KPIs, monitoring, and continuous improvement backlog.

5) Governance & Change Enablement

• Set up VC model governance (naming, versioning, dependency standards, peer reviews).
• Develop SOPs, training content, and playbooks for engineering, planning, sales configurators, and shop-floor users.
• Ensure compliance with audit/SoD controls for model and pricing changes.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8–12 years of SAP experience with 6+ years in SAP PP and Variant Configuration; S/4HANA AVC hands-on is strongly preferred.
• Proven end-to-end implementations (2–3+ full cycles) in CTO/ETO environments (automotive, machinery, high‑tech, industrial equipment).
• Deep expertise in:
• VC/AVC modeling: profiles, dependencies (procedures, constraints), variant tables/functions, model performance.
• Super BOMs / Super Routings, component/operation selection via dependencies, phantom assemblies.
• Production planning & execution: MRP, order types, confirmations, backflush, rework, subcontracting (nice-to-have).
• Variant pricing concepts and alignment with SD pricing and costing.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for configuration runtime issues and explosion errors.

Technical & Tooling

• S/4HANA Fiori apps for PP & AVC (Manage Product Variants, Manage Configuration Models, Process Orders, etc.).
• Dependency maintenance tools, Variant Tables, Object Dependency Editor, Configuration Engine know-how.
• Familiarity with IDoc/API/BTP Integration Suite for VC data transport and 3rd‑party configurator bridges (nice-to-have).
• Understanding of Engineering Change Management (ECM) and Document Management System (DMS) linkages.

Soft Skills

• Strong stakeholder management with Engineering/R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain leaders.
• Excellent workshop facilitation, solution storytelling, and documentation discipline.
• Mentoring skills to guide consultants and client key users; ability to make pragmatic design trade‑offs.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial), Manufacturing, or IT.
• SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing and/or AVC certification preferred.
