Senior Guidewire Developer
Role purpose
As a Senior Guidewire Developer, you are accountable for technical ownership of Guidewire solutions across one or more domains. You combine deep technical expertise, solution leadership, and operational accountability to ensure Guidewire platforms are stable, scalable, compliant, and aligned to enterprise standards.
This role goes beyond individual delivery to own technical direction, quality, and reliability for assigned areas, while guiding senior and junior engineers and acting as the primary technical escalation point.
Key responsibilities
Platform & solution ownership
- Own the technical design and implementation of Guidewire solutions across one or more of the following domains:
- PolicyCenter
- Digital platforms (Engage, Jutro)
- Integrations, APIs, and decoupled services
- Lead solution design decisions for complex, cross‑module requirements
- Ensure solutions maximize out‑of‑the‑box (OOTB) Guidewire capabilities, approving customizations only when justified
- Partner with architects to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance standards
Technical leadership & delivery governance
- Provide technical leadership across multiple squads or workstreams
- Review and govern solution designs, code, and configurations for quality and consistency
- Set and enforce engineering standards, patterns, and best practices
- Support estimation, planning, and sequencing of complex delivery initiatives
- Act as the technical authority during delivery trade‑offs and risk decisions
Integration & non‑functional excellence
- Own integration architecture and implementation quality for assigned domains
- Ensure non‑functional requirements (performance, scalability, reliability, resilience) are designed, tested, and met
- Guide teams on cloud‑native patterns, DevSecOps, and observability practices
- Ensure solutions are production‑ready and operable at scale
Production ownership & operational accountability
- Lead root‑cause analysis for severe or recurring incidents and drive permanent fixes
- Own reduction of defect leakage, repeat incidents, and change‑related failures
- Partner closely with ADM, QE, and SRE teams to continuously improve platform stability
Stakeholder & cross‑functional collaboration
- Work closely with Business Systems Analysts, Product Owners, and BU stakeholders to:
- Shape solution options
- Define realistic scopes and delivery approaches
- Translate complex technical considerations into clear, actionable guidance for non‑technical stakeholders
Mentoring & team development
- Mentor Intermediate, and Junior Guidewire Developers
- Guide engineers on solution design, problem‑solving, and platform best practices
- Build technical depth and reduce key‑person dependency within teams
Reuse, standardization & continuous improvement
- Drive creation and adoption of reusable components, accelerators, and blueprints
- Reduce duplication and long‑term cost through reuse and simplification
Required skills & experience
- 9 -12 years of Guidewire development experience
- Strong expertise across multiple Guidewire products (PC, )
- Strong experience with complex integrations and distributed systems
- Proven experience managing of technical delivery across multiple teams or modules
- Strong understanding of P&C insurance processes and regulatory context
- Experience owning production stability and operational outcomes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills
Desirable experience
- Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP) delivery and operations
- Experience with DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD, and observability tools
- Leading large‑scale Guidewire programs or multi‑country implementations
- Working in regulated, multi-business unit enterprise environments
- Prior experience contributing to platform standards or architecture forums
