Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated MSSQL Database Specialist to take full ownership of our enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environment while providing secondary support across our open-source and NoSQL database layers. The ideal candidate will focus primarily on maximizing the performance, security, high availability, and integrity of critical MSSQL instances, while possessing working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, and modern NoSQL systems. You will drive production database operations, optimize complex architectures or lead enterprise database governance.

 

DBA resource should be capable of supporting database administration activities in cloud environments, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The DBA should have hands-on experience in managing, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, backup/recovery, high availability, and security of MSSQL databases across these cloud platforms.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, patch, and upgrade enterprise Microsoft SQL Server instances (SQL Server 2016 through latest editions).
  • Architect, deploy, and manage AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), and transactional replication setups.
  • Profile server resource usage, tune complex T-SQL queries optimize indexes, and resolve blocking or deadlocking issues.
  • Implement strict security standards, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), data masking, server auditing, and Active Directory / RBAC configurations.
  • Establish, document, and routinely execute robust disaster recovery (DR) plans and advanced backup configurations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot SQL Server Agent jobs, SSIS packages, SSRS reports, and core ETL pipelines.
  • Participate in database architecture planning, code reviews, and schema migrations to ensure alignment with production best practices.
  • (For Associate Director) Drive enterprise-wide data governance strategy, manage team delivery, interface with senior client stakeholders, and map out long-term infrastructure roadmaps.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Primary Skill: 100% focused expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database administration, database engineering, and architecture.
  • Mastery of T-SQL (Transact-SQL) development, including writing and optimizing stored procedures, functions, views, and complex triggers.
  • Deep hands-on experience using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and Extended Events.
  • Solid technical understanding of Windows Server operating systems, Windows Failover Clustering, and Active Directory integration.
  • Experience with native or third-party database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, Idera, SolarWinds).
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and query-optimization troubleshooting capabilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or relevant legacy MSSQL certifications.
  • Experience managing cloud-managed MSSQL deployments (e.g., AWS RDS for SQL Server or Azure SQL Database).
  • Exposure to automated database deployment scripts or infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).

Education
