Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Manager – Generation Planning (Hydro Power Plants) with strong expertise in utility business processes and SAP-enabled energy operations. The role will be responsible for managing generation planning, reservoir optimization, power scheduling, generation forecasting, regulatory reporting, and integration with SAP IS-U and enterprise utility systems.
The incumbent will lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency, generation optimization, energy accounting, and decision-making for hydroelectric power generation assets. The role requires close collaboration with generation operations, load dispatch centers, commercial teams, regulatory bodies, and IT teams to ensure reliable and cost-effective power generation.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in hydro power operations, power generation planning, energy management, and SAP-based utility solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Generation Planning & Scheduling
- Lead short-term, medium-term, and long-term generation planning activities for hydro power plants.
- Prepare generation schedules based on:
- Reservoir levels
- Water inflow forecasts
- Grid demand requirements
- Peak load requirements
- Regulatory constraints
- Coordinate generation schedules with State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC), Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC), and grid operators.
- Optimize generation portfolios to maximize plant efficiency and revenue realization.
Hydro Reservoir Management
- Monitor reservoir storage levels and water availability.
- Support reservoir operation planning and water utilization strategies.
- Optimize water resources considering:
- Irrigation requirements
- Flood control requirements
- Power generation targets
- Environmental obligations
- Develop water budgeting and reservoir utilization plans.
SAP IS-U & Utility System Integration
- Ensure alignment between generation operations and SAP-based utility processes.
- Support integration with:
- SAP IS-U
- SAP PM
- SAP FI/CO
- SAP BW/4HANA
- SAP Analytics Cloud
- Energy Accounting Systems
- Drive digitalization initiatives related to generation planning and reporting.
- Ensure data integrity for energy generation, scheduling, and settlement processes.
Energy Accounting & Audit
- Oversee energy accounting and reconciliation activities.

Forecasting & Performance Optimization

- Analyze plant performance and recommend optimization measures.
- Monitor generation efficiency and capacity utilization.
- Drive initiatives to improve plant load factor and operational reliability.
Regulatory & Commercial Coordination
- Ensure compliance with CERC, SERC, CEA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Support tariff filings and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinate with commercial teams for:
- Power Scheduling
- Energy Settlement
- Open Access Transactions
- Power Trading Activities
- Prepare operational and management reporting required by regulatory agencies.
Asset & Maintenance Planning Coordination
- Collaborate with SAP PM and plant maintenance teams.
- Integrate outage planning with generation schedules.
- Support annual maintenance planning of hydro generating units.
- Monitor equipment availability and maintenance impacts on generation capacity.
- Optimize generation schedules around planned shutdowns.
Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and review dashboards and MIS reports related to:
- Reservoir Status
- Generation Forecasts

- Utilize data-driven insights to improve business decisions and operational planning.
Digital Transformation & Process Improvement
- Lead initiatives for automation and digital transformation within generation planning operations.

Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Energy Engineering, or related discipline.
- Master's Degree/MBA in Power Management, Energy Management, or Operations Management preferred.
- SAP IS-U or SAP Utility-related certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements
- 10–15 years of experience in Power Generation, Hydro Operations, or Energy Utilities.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in hydro power generation planning and scheduling.
- At least 3+ years in a managerial or team leadership role.
- Experience working with hydroelectric generation utilities or state power generation organizations.
- Exposure to SAP-based utility environments preferred.
