Role Purpose

To lead and deliver high-quality assurance and advisory engagements in ESG / sustainability domains, aligned with global and Indian frameworks for disclosures and sustainability reporting. Provide strategic advisory to clients on ESG frameworks, reporting, ratings and emerging regulatory requirements, and support growth of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead advisory engagements on ESG strategy, reporting and disclosure, including:
  • Gap assessments for frameworks such as GRI Standards, IFRS S1/S2 (under IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards), CSRD and Indian regulations (e.g., BRSR – Business Responsibility & Sustainability Report).
  • Materiality assessments, stakeholder mapping, double materiality analysis (especially under CSRD/ESRS).
  • Assisting clients to develop ESG policies, governance frameworks, internal controls, data-collection & assurance readiness.
  • Lead and execute assurance engagements:
  • Provide limited or reasonable assurance on ESG/sustainability disclosures, sustainability reports, and ESG-linked instruments (e.g., green/social/sustainability bonds) using recognised assurance standards (e.g., ISAE 3000 (Revised), AA1000 Assurance Standard). iimjobs.com+1
  • Validate ESG data and controls (“ESG data assurance”) to support credibility of reporting.
  • Review and advise on supply-chain ESG risks, decarbonisation road-maps, climate-risk disclosures (e.g., under TCFD/IFRS S2) and broader non-financial assurance.
  • Advisory services on trending ESG topics:
  • ESG ratings & benchmarking: help clients prepare for, engage with and respond to ESG rating agencies (e.g., CDP, MSCI, EcoVadis, Sustainalytics) and support improvement of ESG scores.
  • ESG due diligence (pre-M&A, supply chain), impact assessment, stakeholder & human rights due diligence (HRDD) in value chains.
  • ESG technology / data systems: assist in establishing data collection, management, controls, dashboards, and possibly integration with digital platforms.
  • Business development & thought leadership:
  • Support proposal development, client pitches, market research on ESG regulatory changes (India & global).
  • Develop and maintain internal methodology, frameworks, tools for ESG assurance/advisory service offerings.
  • Contribute to training and mentoring of junior team members, build internal capabilities.
  • Client & stakeholder management:
  • Serve as trusted advisor to senior clients (CFOs, Heads of Sustainability/ESG, Audit Committees).
  • Interface with global/regional teams (if applicable) and ensure seamless delivery across geographies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Professional qualification such as CA/CPA, or equivalent, or significant experience in assurance/advisory.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience (depending on seniority) in sustainability/ESG reporting, assurance, consulting or related fields.
  • Deep knowledge of ESG frameworks and standards including: GRI Standards, IFRS S1/S2 (IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards), CSRD/ESRS, TCFD, SASB (legacy), BRSR and other Indian disclosure requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in assurance engagements of non-financial disclosures, understanding of assurance standards such as ISAE/SSAE 3000, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in ESG ratings or benchmarking processes (or ability to quickly learn).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills; ability to lead teams, coordinate cross-functional members and manage complex engagements.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), ability to engage with senior stakeholders and present actionable insights.
  • Willingness to travel (domestic / regional) as required.

Preferred / Value-Adds

  • Certification in ESG/sustainability frameworks (e.g., GRI Certified, SASB FSA, IFRS Certificate, etc.).
  • Experience in climate-risk disclosure, Scope 3 emissions, supply-chain sustainability or human rights due diligence.
  • Familiarity with ESG data platforms, analytics tools, dashboards, digital solutions.
  • Experience working with clients across sectors (manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services) in India and/or globally.
  • Knowledge of Indian regulatory environment for ESG (e.g., SEBI BRSR, MCA guidelines) and global best practice.
