Key Responsibilities:

Seeking an experienced Android Mobile Engineer to design, develop, and support innovative mobile applications that enhance the digital healthcare experience for millions of members. The role focuses on developing scalable, secure, and high-performing Android applications while collaborating closely with Product, UX, Architecture, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver customer-centric solutions.

This individual contributor position is responsible for building native Android applications using modern development frameworks and best practices. The engineer will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and production support. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Android application development using Java/Kotlin, API integration, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and modern mobile architecture patterns such as MVVM.

Application Development:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Build responsive, scalable, and secure mobile solutions that meet business and user requirements.
• Develop reusable components and implement modern Android architectural patterns such as MVVM.
• Translate business requirements and functional specifications into high-quality code and technical solutions.
• Support the design and implementation of customer-facing mobile features that maximize user experience.

Mobile Engineering & Integration

• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services into Android applications.
• Integrate third-party SDKs and libraries such as Firebase, Analytics, Maps, Push Notifications, and other mobile services.
• Consume and manage content from Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar CMS platforms.
• Implement application caching, error handling, networking, and offline functionality.

Testing & Quality Assurance:

• Develop and execute unit tests and UI automation tests using Espresso.
• Support Component Integration Testing (CIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Troubleshoot defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes.
• Maintain code quality through peer reviews, automated testing, and adherence to development standards.

DevOps & Release Management:

• Participate in CI/CD processes using tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, and related DevOps technologies.
• Manage Android build configurations, signing assets, build types, flavors, and release processes.
• Support application deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production maintenance activities.

Collaboration & Documentation:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, UX, QA, Architecture, Security, and Operations.
• Document technical specifications, design decisions, and implementation details.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and delivery.
• Work with internal and external partners to ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards and security requirements.

Operational Support:

• Provide incident support and troubleshooting for moderately complex application issues.
• Monitor application performance and recommend enhancements for scalability, reliability, and security.
• Support healthcare application compliance requirements, including data privacy and security standards.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in software development or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Minimum 2 years of experience integrating APIs and backend services.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with Android dependency management tools such as Gradle and Maven.
• Minimum 2 years of experience integrating third-party SDKs, libraries, or source code.
• Minimum 1 year of experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or a similar Content Management System (CMS).
• Experience developing automated UI tests using Espresso.

Required Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in Android SDK, Java, and Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of Android app lifecycle and mobile application architecture.
• Experience with MVVM architecture and Android Jetpack components.
• Experience with Retrofit, REST API integration, networking, caching, and error handling.
• Experience writing automated UI tests using Espresso.
• Knowledge of Git-based source control systems.
• Understanding of mobile application security best practices.

Additional Requirements:

• Skilled in native Android application development using modern Android frameworks and design patterns.
• Proficient in MVVM architecture and Android Jetpack libraries.
• Skilled in UI test automation using Espresso.
• Experience managing Android build configurations, signing assets, build types, product flavors, and release management.
• Experience integrating third-party SDKs including Firebase, Analytics, Mapping, Notifications, and Monitoring solutions.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and mobile DevOps practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot application performance, stability, and production issues.
• Experience integrating content from Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar headless CMS platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ year experience with location-based technologies (GPS, geofencing, beacons, real-time location services).
• 1+ year experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
• 1+ year experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• 1+ year experience with mobile device cloud testing platforms such as Perfecto Mobile, BrowserStack, or Sauce Labs.
• 1+ year experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or IBM WebSphere.
• 2+ years experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Experience developing and supporting enterprise-scale mobile applications.
• Experience with mobile application distribution and release management processes.
• Experience building healthcare, HIPAA-compliant, or PCI-compliant applications.
• Experience with Firebase services, application monitoring, analytics, and crash reporting.
• Experience with secure mobile application development and data protection standards.
